Founded in 2016 by husband and wife team Gary and Andrea Watt, the Orkney Gin Company created the first gin to be made on the island, which was previously better known for whisky distilleries such as Scapa and Highland Park.
There is lots of Norse influence on Orkney, and Aatta is no exception - the name itself is Old Norse for 'eight', referencing the 8 runs of distillation using 8 botancials that this particular gin goes through.
Orange, cinnamon, rosehip and vanilla provide a softly fruity profile, with a somewhat rich texture accentuating the hints of citrus fruit. There's a pleasant spicy bite of coriander on the finish though, lifting the notes and ensuring it doesn't dissipate quickly.
It's got enough backbone to work in a variety of gin-forward cocktails such as a classic Martini - in fact, go for a more 1800s style and add a bar spoon of Curacao to two parts gin and 1 part dry vermouth to highlight that orange-y note!
And a word on the bottle - reminding me of Suntory Hibiki, this is truly a stunning piece of glassare, with the Selkie - a precursor to a mermaid - in the background reaching up to the top of the bottle. It's definitely one to keep once it's emptied!

Shipping rates are based on WEIGHT of goods - the total weight of your order will determine the cost of the shipping charge due to price banding imposed by Royal Mail. Orders weighing up to a max of 2kg will be charged £5.99, and orders weighing over 2kg will be charged £7.99. ANY PURCHASE OVER £150 WILL RECEIVE FREE SHIPPING.
PLEASE NOTE: The Spirit Specialist is CLOSED on Sundays and Mondays - all orders are collected by Royal Mail the day after they are packaged up. As such, if you place an order on a Saturday, Sunday or Monday, your order will be packaged up on the following Tuesday at re-opening, and then collected by Royal Mail on the Wednesday morning. PLEASE BEAR THIS IN MIND IF YOU ARE WORKING TO A DEADLINE!

All orders are sent on a Tracked service with Royal Mail, which provides a Tracking Number for you to follow its journey to your destination.

All products are securely packaged in Air-Shock bottle bags or frankly excessive amounts of bubble wrap for additional protection.
All goods must be examined at the time of delivery and any damages or shortage must be recorded on the relevant delivery acceptance forms with the delivery. Un-examined or un-checked goods that result in a subsequent claim outside of a 48 hour period will not be accepted. Queries relating to claims must be made within 48 hours of receiving the goods, otherwise claims cannot be guaranteed.
