Produced near Sao Paolo, Brazil, Capucana is so named as it is taken from 'Capu' and 'Cana', which mean 'house' and 'sugar cane' respectively - hence, House of Sugar Cane.

Cachaca is technically an agricole rum - it's a spirit distilled from sugar-cane juice. Indeed, in the USA cachaca is labelled as rum. But there's a fresh yet deep complexity to the best cachaca which rum doesn't have - and this has it in spades, making it perfect for Caipirinhas.

What makes this stand out is a surprising smoky and peppery note in the background, lifting the more forward flavours of sweet demerara sugar, peach, pear and plum. It adds an extra dimension to cocktails without being too unusual, and drinks brilliantly on its own.
