Located in a former pump house in the Royal Naval Dockyards in Chatham, Kent, the Copper Rivet distillery opened in 2016 - following 11 years planning and preparation by the Russell family in an aim to realise a dream of producing top quality gins and whisky.

ALl grains used for production are sourced from within 20 miles of the distillery - which helpfully even includes the Isle of Grain. Working with local farmers means the team have an eye of every step of the process and call themselves a 'grain-to-glass' operation.

Whereas Scotch SIngle Malt whisky MUST be distilled in a pot still, the English whisky industry is still in it's relative infancy and as such does not yet have any regulation to oversee labelling and naming convention. This particular release is 100% malted Belgravia barley harvested in 2016 from the 40 Acre Marsh field that was distilled in 2018 in both a pot AND column still, before bottling in November 2021.

Column still distillation tends to produce lighter, fruitier flavours and that is certainly evident here, with an almost juicy note of blackberries coming through on the palate. The mouthfeel is light and fresh, with malty biscuit notes arriving and a hint of spice on the finish. It's a whisky for sunny days, and would certainly work as a highball too!
