De Kuyper
DeKuyper Passionfruit Liqueur 15% 70cl
De Kuyper was founded in the Netherlands in 1695 by Petrus DeKuyper as a manufacturer of barrels - his last name literally means 'the cooper'.
By 1792 the company owned a distillery which had become one of the biggest producers of Genever (aka gin) whilst also making a variety of schnapps and liqueurs. Today they can be considered one of the leading names in the liqueur industry alongside the likes of Giffard and Bols.
In an effort to analyse the Pornstar 'Martini', also known as the Passionfruit 'Martini' - and I put the word Martini in quotes because it isn't actually a Martini - I sampled 7 different passionfruit liqueurs together to establish what would be the best to use moving forward, including the likes of Passoa and Giffard's own version. While it was a close thing (with the exception of the incredibly dull and lifeless Passoa) DeKuyper Passionfruit Liqueur was well up in the top two.
I think it's because the use of grapefruit and orange adds more depth and complexity, with a lighter, fresher feel allowing the passionfruit elemtn to shine through instead of being masked by sugar.
