The original Fee Brothers, who can be seen on a paper strip around the top of the label, were the four sons of Owen Fee, an Irish immigrant who came across the American with his wife Margaret in 1835. The family opened a butcher's shop in Rochester, New York in 1863 which also included a delicatessen and bar. The oldest son James opened his own grocery and liqour store and they expanded into wine producing and importing. Prohibition forced them to adapt by making altar wine and producing flavourings that could be added to 'bathtub' alcohol. The repeal of Prohibition briefly saw them return to dealing with alcohol, but the business evolved again as the family focussed instead on syrups, flavourings and bitters.

Now in the 5th generation of family ownership, Fee Brothers Bitters are highly regarded around the world for their high quality of flavours. The Aztec Chocolate Bitters take inspiration from ancient Aztecs who would drink a beverage similar to a hot chocolate made from cacao beans, chili peppers and spices. It's this extra kick of spice that lifts the flavour profile here, with a deep, dark chcolate note that works wonderfully in an Old Fashioned!
