Originally known as 'Linlithgow', after the town where it was situated, the St. Magdalent Distillery dates back to 1798 and possibly 1765. In 1834 it moved to a new site that could source water from the Union Canal but also had relatively easy access to a railway line - the site previously home to a leper colony and hospital, itself named St. Magdalene, at which point the distillery changed name.

The disitllery evenutally became part of the DCL conglomerate and ultimately closed down in 1983, with some of the buildings  convereted into apartments, still retaining the distinctive pagoda roofs.

It has become a legendary lost distillery, with a warm yet soft flavour profile so renowned in the Lowland style.

This particular bottling features new make spirit distilled in 1981 - 2 years before the distillery closure - that was purchased by Gordon & MacPhail and filled into their own ex-Sherry barrels. There's a light nutty note with hints of candied ginger and a slight grassy touch.

This bottle is being sold on behalf of a customer of The Spirit Specialist. The bottle is fully sealed and intact and the fill level is high. The condition of the bottle and label is pristine.
