Distillery Label (Gordon and MacPhail)
G&M Distillery Labels Glentauchers 2008 14yo 46% 70cl
Glentauchers was established in 1898 on Tauchers Farm by James Buchanan & Co to provide fillings for their Buchanan’s and Black & White blends - the location was picked due to it's proximity to a main road and railway line, and the distillery even has its own sidings.
The owners trialled continuous pot still distillation in early 1900s but it wasn’t cost effective and also proved too dangerous after several explosions. It was eventually mothballed by then-owner DCL during the whisky industry downturn in 1985, before being purchased by Allied Distillers in 1989 to be a component of Ballantines - although it didn’t start production until 1992. It's been part of Chivas Brothers family of companies since 2005.
Glentauchers is a soft, approachable whisky in general, which makes it ideal for blending. This Distillery Label bottle by Gordon & MacPhail highlights their skill at taking new make spirit and maturing in their own casks, ensuring a quality and attention to detail. Whereas previous releases were bottled at 43%, an increase to 46% makes a world of difference, expanding rich, malty characters, soft spice and warm oak.
