James E Pepper
James E Pepper 1776 Rye Whiskey 46% 70cl
Currently sourced from MGP in Indiana, although the original James E Pepper Distillery did start production again in December 2017 so we will start to see some of their own spirit start to make it's way into batches.
This uses 90% rye with what is thought to be 5% malted barley and 5% corn. This is a spicier style of rye whiskey - there's dry chilli notes and herbaceous hints of dill, of all things. It can be a bit of a struggle to drink neat for those who prefer their US whiskies on the softer, sweeter side, but the heat and spice is ideal for whiskey cocktails - Old Fashioned, Manhattan, those sort of things where you want the spice to mingle with the other elements.
