James Eadie
James Eadie Benrinnes 15yo Malmsey Madeira Finish Single Cask 51% 70cl
The James Eadie brewery was founded in 1854 - James also inherited a recipe for a blended Scotch whisky from his father and the business expanded into wines and spirits sales along with ownership of a considerable numbers of pubs. Eadie's great-great-grandson Rupert Patrick founded James Eadie Whiskies after several years in the trade, and the business has produced a number of independent bottlings.
The 'Cask Finish' range is a series of single cask releases that have spent a short period of time in another type of barrel just before bottling. In this case spirit from the Benrinnes Distillery distilled on 10th September 2007 matured initially in an ex-Bourbon cask before spending 17 months finishing in a first-fill Malmsey Madeira wine barrel.Even at 51% ABV the Madeira element shines through - Benrinnes is traditionally a light, almost grassy whisky which enables the sweet nuttiness of the wine to come ot the fore. There's also hints of dark chocolate covered cherries and praline, making this a delicious after-dinner dram with cheeses.
