Libations

Libations was launched in December 2019 by Rory Armstong and Chloe Potter to introduce a British Spiced Rum to a growing market, using the majority of ingredients from the Yorkshire region.

Unlike other British rum brands that transport already matured Caribbean rum into the country, Libations use a 95% base rum spirit sourced from the Diamond Distillery in Guyana. That base spirit is then redistilled with Yorkshire heather, Madagascan vanilla, cinnamon, clove and orange peel at the Yorkshire Dales Distillery in Leyburn, before a brief aging in English oak casks and a blending with low-water Yorkshire honey to be bottled at 41.5% ABV

Pina is a pineapple infused spiced rum, which dials down the heather, clove and cinnamon quantities to allow the infusion of whole white Monte Lirio pineapples to take effect. The essential oils from the bark and the sweetness of the flesh are allowed to come to the fore, again bottling at 41.5% ABV

The Pineapple is upfront and fresh on the nose, and again initially on the palate before the clove and cinnamon arrive at the finish, adding an almost peppery element. There's a brilliant juxtaposition between the sweet pineapple at the front of the mouth and the sharp spiciness at the back - lightly chilled neat or in a long drink with soda water or ginger ale is an absolute joy!
