Malt Riot
Malt Riot Blended Malt Whisky 40% 70cl
A marriage of malt whiskies from a number of distilleries around Scotland, Malt Riot was created by the Glasgow Distillery Company and is named after riots that took place in the city in 1725, when a tax on malt was imposed by the British government.
However, it can be argued that this tax was one of the most important factors to the growth of Scotch whisky, as counter-intuitive as that might sounds. Daniel Campbell, the Glasgow MP who helped pass the motion and who found his mansion attacked during the riots, would move to Islay as a result and help the island become a key part of the whisky industry.
At a very reasonable price point, one might not expect this to have much going for it - but if it didn't, I wouldn't be selling it, would I? This has a pleasing amount of fruitiness with orchard fruits and berries dancing on the palate. There's a warm note of oak and a touch of spice to lift everything at the finish. The finish is rich and lingers nicely - this will ceratinly please a wide range of tastes and also goes really well in Scotch cocktails!
