    Originally named 'Shenk's' and 'Bombergers', the Michter's Distillery was based in Pennysylvania and was known as one of the oldest - if not THE oldest distilleries in America. However, following it's closure in 1990, it was relaunched in 1996 when Joe Magliocco and friend Dick Newman discovered the Michter's brand had been legally abandoned. For the princely sum of $275 the pair purchased the brand rights and began sourcing whiskies from a variety of distilleries, mainly from Kentucky. Relationships were formed with the likes of KDB and Early Times, before a new distillery was opened in the state and their own spirit ran off the still in 2015.

    The US*1 mark highlights the quality and consistently that is aimed to go into every bottle. The Sour Mash is so named as a small amount of the fermented mash from a run is placed into the next run, helping to maintain a consistency of fermentation from batch to batch. The mashbill for this isn't known, but it's assumed to be less than 51% corn as otherwise it would just be sold as 'Bourbon'.

    However, if that is the case there has to be plenty of barley involved as opposed to rye, as this has rich, silky notes of bread pudding and coffee cake up front, before dry cinnamon and a hint of chilli flakes arrive on the finish. It's an excellent versatile whiskey for both sipping neat or using in cocktails!

    Shipping rates are based on WEIGHT of goods - the total weight of your order will determine the cost of the shipping charge due to price banding imposed by the carriers we use.

    Please note due to our opening times goods ordered on a Saturday may result in a delayed arrival. Goods ordered on a Sunday or Monday will be shipped from the store on the Tuesday immediately following - please bear this in mind if you have a deadline.

    48 Hour Delivery uses the Tracked 48 service from Royal Mail, which provides a Tracking Number for you to follow its journey to your destination.

    Next Day Delivery uses DHL services, a tracking number will also be supplied to allow you to follow its journey.

    All products are securely packaged in Air-Shock bottle bags or excessive amount of bubble wrap for additional protection.

    All goods must be examined at the time of delivery and any damages or shortage must be recorded on the relevant delivery acceptance forms with the delivery. Un-examined or un-checked goods that result in a subsequent claim outside of a 48 hour period will not be accepted. Queries relating to claims must be made within 48 hours of receiving the goods, otherwise claims cannot be guaranteed.

    RETURNS / EXCHANGES POLICY

    The Spirit Specialist offers EXCHANGES ONLY on unwanted items to an equal amount. Refunds will not be given, cash differences in favour of the purchaser in the case of an exchange will also not be provided.
