Nc'Nean Batch .05 Organic Single Malt Whisky 46% 70cl
The Nc'nean Distillery was founded by Annabel Thomas in March 2017 - she was previously a consultant in London but a distillery road trip around Scotland persuaded her to up sticks and create a distillery with a difference – it's the first fully organic distillery powered by 100% renewable energy. The wood chips for the biomass boiler are sourced from a local forest, while all by-products are recycled as animal and plant feed on Drimin Estate where the distillery is located. The glass for the bottles is also 100% recycled.
The name Nc'nean (pronounced Nic-knee-anne) comes from Neachneohain, the Queen of Spirits in Gaelic legend. Neachneohain was a huntress: strong, independent and never afraid to walk her own path - she was also a fierce protector of nature.
Using a combination of 65% STR red wine casks and 35% ex-Bourbon barrels, Nc'Nean Single Malt is a light, fresh whisky using only Organic Scottish barley. The team are aiming to make a whisky that is soft and approachable, which also works well in cocktails. There's crisp apple notes and soft barley throughout, with the red wine casks a gentle hit of tannin too.
