    On December 5th 2011 - the 78th anniversary of Prohibition’s repeal in America - the New York Distilling Company opened its doors in Brooklyn. Founded by cocktail and spirits expert Allen Katz and Tom Potter - a co-founder of the Brooklyn Brewery - NYDC aim to make spirits embodying the cocktail and drinking culture of New York through the years.

    As well as a range of gins and vodkas, NYDC also produce a range of whiskies branded 'Ragtime Rye' - rye whiskey and ragtime music were synonymous in the early 20th Century, and the team produce whiskies hoping to evoke that era by using rye grown only in New York State.

    A limited edition release bottled in single barrel batches at cask strength, Jaywalk Heirloom Rye is comprised of 75% Horton Rye, an heirloom rye varietal not commercially grown since the 1800s, along with 13% New York corn and 12% malted barley.

    This is, quite simply, one of the best rye whiskies I have ever encountered. The depth and complexity of flavour knows no bound, with toasted sourdough, salted butter, charred dark fruits, vanilla cream, cinnamon, nutmeg, peppermint all dancing on the palate. It doesn't even need water, with the incredible flavour profile not being masked by the higher ABV.

    Honestly, you can scratch around for the likes of Blantons or Weller for the same price - if not considerably higher in some places! - and yet this is arguably even better.

    Shipping rates are based on WEIGHT of goods - the total weight of your order will determine the cost of the shipping charge due to price banding imposed by the carriers we use.

    Please note due to our opening times goods ordered on a Saturday may result in a delayed arrival. Goods ordered on a Sunday or Monday will be shipped from the store on the Tuesday immediately following - please bear this in mind if you have a deadline.

    48 Hour Delivery uses the Tracked 48 service from Royal Mail, which provides a Tracking Number for you to follow its journey to your destination.

    Next Day Delivery uses DHL services, a tracking number will also be supplied to allow you to follow its journey.

    Items are NOT insured as standard, please contact us if you would like to discuss additional insurance for premium products.

    All products are securely packaged in Air-Shock bottle bags or excessive amount of bubble wrap for additional protection.

    All goods must be examined at the time of delivery and any damages or shortage must be recorded on the relevant delivery acceptance forms with the delivery. Un-examined or un-checked goods that result in a subsequent claim outside of a 48 hour period will not be accepted. Queries relating to claims must be made within 48 hours of receiving the goods, otherwise claims cannot be guaranteed.

    RETURNS / EXCHANGES POLICY

    The Spirit Specialist offers EXCHANGES ONLY on unwanted items to an equal amount. Refunds will not be given, cash differences in favour of the purchaser in the case of an exchange will also not be provided.
