Maison Ferrand is one of the most highly regarded Cognac houses, and during the travels of Chairman Alexandre Gabriel around the world to sell the high quality spirit and negotiate cask purchases for maturation, he discovered stocks of amazing quality rum that were waiting to be bottled. In order to gain grace with those distilleries and cask owners (and also pay cheaper costs) Gabriel set up the Plantation brand, in which cask of rum from around the Caribbean are sent to France to be cared for, married, finished - whatever needs doing to ensure the best quality product ends up in bottle. In late 2023 the Plantation name was changed to Planteray, but there has been no changes to the liquid inside.
Reverend Stiggins is a character in Charles Dickens' novel 'The Pickwick Papers' whose favourite tipple is rum and pineapple. In honour of this, Alexandre concocted a marrriage of two of his core rums. Planteray 3 Stars White Rum has the bark of Victorian pineapples steeped in it before redistilling, while the Original Dark is macerated with the flesh of those same pineapples before adding the redistted white rum. The end result is a stunning flavoured rum with a real fresh and juicy pineapple feel while still maintaining the fruity rum notes. The balance is impeccable, with it being neither sweet or flavourless. I absolutely love this served chilled from the fridge, but it's also amazing in a Mai Tai!
