A brand created by Ian MacLeod, Smokehead is a series of Single Malt whiskies from an unnamed Islay distillery providing intense, full smokey tones - as you might expect from the name. Rumour has is the whisky is a young Ardbeg, possible around 5 years old, but this has never been officially confirmed.
The 'Unfiltered' part of this release is the fact the whisky hasn't undergone chill-filtration, a process by which spirit is chilled to just above freezing so impurities within the liquid crystallise, making it easier to filter out. There's a lot of argument in whisky drinking circles that chill-filtration is either purely cosmetic - meaning if you add ice the whisky won't go 'hazy' - or does actually remove some of the flavour compexities, even if only in a minor way. I tend to fall into the former side of the debate, but there are plenty of purists who don't want anyone messing about with 'their' drink.
Whatever - the most important thing is that it tastes good. And this absolutely does, with a full-on earthy smokiness from start to the lengthy finish. There's a lovely toffee sweetness underlying that smoke though, which does go some way to suggest Ardbeg is the source, and means that it's not just ALL smoke.

Orders weighing up to a max of 2kg will be charged £5.99, and orders weighing over 2kg will be charged £7.99. ANY PURCHASE OVER £150 WILL RECEIVE FREE SHIPPING.
PLEASE NOTE: The Spirit Specialist is CLOSED on Sundays and Mondays - all orders are collected by Royal Mail the day after they are packaged up. As such, if you place an order on a Saturday, Sunday or Monday, your order will be packaged up on the following Tuesday at re-opening, and then collected by Royal Mail on the Wednesday morning. All orders are sent on a Tracked service with Royal Mail, which provides a Tracking Number for you to follow its journey to your destination.

All products are securely packaged in Air-Shock bottle bags or frankly excessive amounts of bubble wrap for additional protection.
All goods must be examined at the time of delivery and any damages or shortage must be recorded on the relevant delivery acceptance forms with the delivery. Un-examined or un-checked goods that result in a subsequent claim outside of a 48 hour period will not be accepted. Queries relating to claims must be made within 48 hours of receiving the goods, otherwise claims cannot be guaranteed.
