'Speymalt' is the brand name of any Macallan that has been released from independent maturers Gordon & MacPhail. Based in Elgin, G&M purchase new make spirit direct from distilleries and mature in their own selection of casks, thanks to over 100 years of relationships built up with distilleries, wineries and bodegas.

Impeccable care and attention is taken to ensure the whisky is of the highest quality, and on a regular occasion you can find some absolute bargains compared to 'official' releases, due to the fact they are often perceived as 'inferior' releases due to the lack of any official branding. As it happens, the liquid is often way better than mainstream bottlings, and G&M price their releases at a level which encourages drinking and enjoying rather than setting aside to make money.

So here we have a 19yo Macallan matured in a single first-fill Sherry cask - there's the classic rich sweet notes you'd expect from this famous distillery, along with notes of nutmeg and sweet cinnamon. The ABV provides a healthy kick as you might expect, but it still drinks brilliantly without water thanks to the rich nature of the spirit. Just a touch of H2O will open even more fruity notes however, so I do recommend playing with this to suit your level.
