Tosolini MOST Acquavitae D'Uva 40% 70cl
Originally created in 1985 using grapes still fresh from pressing, 'Most' is a spirit made from 4 grape varieties - Merlot, Moscato, Tocia Friulano and Fragolino. The latter two are varieties you may not have heard of - particularly Fragolino, also known as the 'strawberry grape' for it's sweet flavour, and which is banned as a wine for sale in the EU. Why? Officially it's becuase it's hard to control the level of methanol given off by the grape during the winemaking process, but legend has it this is a story made up by the Italian wine industry to prevent it being used as it's actually native the the USA, and they don't want a 'foreign' grape taking up space in their vineyards...
This is an incredibly crisp and clean premium grappa, with distinct fruity notes of blackcurrants, blackberries and raspberries, with just a subtle floral note in the background of honeysuckle and lavender. It's incredibly refined, and needs to be sipped just slightly chilled after a fantastic meal - particularly one involving seafood!
