Raj Bhakta is a spirits entrepreneur who has had a somewhat... colourful history. He appeared on the second season of the original US version of The Apprentice and was fired in week 9 - but only after he had asked tennis star Anna Kournikova and Donald Trump's assistant to go out on a date. In 2006 he ran for Congress as a Republican, losing to the Democrat incumbent by over 30 points.
In 2007 he pruchased land in Vermont with the aim of building and operating a new distillery - however the business started by sourcing whiskies from the Alberta Premium distillery in Canada. In 2010 WhistlePig was officially launched and brought on board highly regarded Master Distiller Dave Pickerell. The first whiskey release from the distillery - a 10 year rye - hit the shelves in 2015. Just a year later, Bhakta was forced out of his own company amid accusations of criminal activity and fraud. Bhakta continues to claim his innocence and founded Bhakta Spirits - focussing mainly on Armagnacs - shortly after.
PiggyBack was the first 100% rye whiskey by the brand and launched in 2018 - the same year that Dave Pickerell sadly passed away. It was the final product he worked on, and was made with bartenders in mind - drinkable neat, but with enough going on it'll work with other ingredients.
It's a belter of a rye, full of that classic spiciness you'd expect but supported by dark fruit notes, salted toffee and even powdered sugar. The herbal side is reined in, making this much more approachable, and the oddly specific ABV means there is still the bite to cut through syrups/mixers.
It's a fitting tribute to one of the bes tin the business.

Shipping rates are based on WEIGHT of goods - the total weight of your order will determine the cost of the shipping charge due to price banding imposed by Royal Mail. Orders weighing up to a max of 2kg will be charged £5.99, and orders weighing over 2kg will be charged £7.99. ANY PURCHASE OVER £150 WILL RECEIVE FREE SHIPPING.
PLEASE NOTE: The Spirit Specialist is CLOSED on Sundays and Mondays - all orders are collected by Royal Mail the day after they are packaged up. As such, if you place an order on a Saturday, Sunday or Monday, your order will be packaged up on the following Tuesday at re-opening, and then collected by Royal Mail on the Wednesday morning. PLEASE BEAR THIS IN MIND IF YOU ARE WORKING TO A DEADLINE!

All orders are sent on a Tracked service with Royal Mail, which provides a Tracking Number for you to follow its journey to your destination.

All products are securely packaged in Air-Shock bottle bags or frankly excessive amounts of bubble wrap for additional protection.
All goods must be examined at the time of delivery and any damages or shortage must be recorded on the relevant delivery acceptance forms with the delivery. Un-examined or un-checked goods that result in a subsequent claim outside of a 48 hour period will not be accepted. Queries relating to claims must be made within 48 hours of receiving the goods, otherwise claims cannot be guaranteed.
